The Misfit Ministries Story

Empowering Communities with Misfits Ministries

Misfits Ministries was born out of brokenness, redemption, and a calling from God to serve those who feel forgotten.

Pastor Joel ( Founder)

Joel’s journey is one of powerful restoration. He is a Purple Heart disabled Army Veteran. After spending years trapped in heroin and drug addiction, Joel is now celebrating over 15 years clean and sober. His life stands as living proof that freedom and healing are possible through Christ. Out of his recovery grew a deep compassion for people battling addiction, homelessness, and hopelessness.

Joel is an ordained minister, a United States Army  Purple Heart disabled veteran, and a gifted airbrush artist well known throughout the Pacific Northwest for his creative work. While working as a DoorDash driver, Joel began purchasing meals out of his own pocket for people living on the streets. What started as small acts of kindness turned into meaningful conversations, prayer, and relationships. For more than a year and a half, Joel consistently connected with unhoused neighbors, listening to their stories and recognizing a deep unmet need  not just for food, but for dignity, connection, and ongoing support.

Jessica ( President)

Jessica’s story is one of courage, survival, and resilience. Jessica and her children endured more than a decade of domestic violence, navigating life in fear and instability. Through faith and perseverance, Jessica found healing and safety, rebuilding her life and creating a new foundation rooted in hope and purpose.

Today, Jessica is a domestic violence advocate and a certified peer support specialist, using her lived experience to walk alongside survivors, families in crisis, and individuals seeking recovery. Addiction has also deeply impacted Jessica’s family, including older children who faced substance abuse and are now clean and sober. These experiences shaped Jessica’s heart for advocacy and outreach, allowing her to serve others with compassion, understanding, and grace rather than judgment.

Jessica is currently pursuing her degree in psychology and is scheduled to graduate in June 2026, continuing to expand her ability to support mental health, recovery, and trauma-informed care within the community.

Together, Joel and Jessica recognized that feeding people alone was not enough. Real change requires community, advocacy, and consistent follow-up. That realization led to the creation of Misfits Ministries.

Today, Misfits Ministries provides hot meals, clothing, hygiene kits, prayer, and one-on-one support while helping individuals navigate housing, recovery, and crisis situations. The ministry serves unhoused neighbors, domestic violence survivors, veterans, and anyone who feels overlooked  offering not just resources, but relationship.

Misfits Ministries exists to bring light where there has been darkness and to walk with people toward lasting transformation.
